In the beginning, a few promoters in their 20s approaches customers along the stretch of road leading to Cineleisure. They are an insistent bunch that would not let you away at all costs.
Even when rejected, they persisted by saying that "$50 for 24 movie tickets to be collected weekly. There's no way you would lose out !"
They continued by telling customers all the various attractive perks such as waived entry cost to St James, Singapore Flyer etc., as well as discounts for companies such as Q&M Dental Surgery, Polar Puffs&Cakes and KBox.
I really should have followed by guts or at least what I've been taught, but I didn't.
I was wondering how would they earn revenue.
Crime Watch: "If it sounds too good to be true, it is probably scam." Totally !
Everywhere: "There's no such thing as a free lunch in this world."
Really really really hate myself for caving in.
Usually when approached by this kind of street promoters, I wouldn't give a damn, or perhaps stop by to take a free sample haha, tell them I'd think about it and never return. But since I was with my friend, I stopped to listen la. I bought their story and signed up.
Guess what? They don't even let me go when I said I'd think about it. "What do you think about for?" and they continue hogging you. Insisting you to sign first and EVEN FOLLOWING YOU TO FREAKING ATM ! houseflies.
I should've known. So unprofessional. Where got ppl follow you all the way to the ATM (si chan lan da).
While walking to the ATM, my friend and I were just saying how we feel super heartpain because 50 bucks to a student, is a lot. A hell lot. However, we chose to see it as a form of 'investment' as we could gain back what we paid by selling the tickets. Argh crap logic.
For the first 3 weeks, everyone came and queued for their movie tickets at Cineleisure and all was well because we got what we promised. 2 Cathay movie tickets and 1 Golden Village movie ticket (They claimed that Cathay's movie ticket printing machine broke down and they could collect it the following week if they still wanted Cathay's instead of GV.) Hence, I thought maybe I was wrong. Perhaps DLC is not a scam afterall.
The day before the 4th week of collection, they IMPROMPTU changed the whole system ! We had to ballot via SMS for our tickets.
This is what they sent out:

The website mentioned that we had to provide our Name (never even specify first name or as per in NRIC) , NRIC no., and mailing address (if we opted for the tickets to be mailed to us fortnightly).
So I thought selling our information would be their source of income !
Firstly, which professional company would inform client just the day before.
Secondly, on their website, they didn't even specify by what time we would receive a confirmation reply (if we were successful)
Thirdly, they selectively replied client's comments or inquiries, avoiding those that questioned their legitimacy.

Fourthly, their English SUCKS ! Not trying to be a Grammer Nazi here but as a professional company, though it may be just established, would refer back to clients using proper English.

There are actually people with a tablet on hand, standing around the streets, asking by-passers to like their page in exchange for things like, a pen. How do I know? Because I had been approached to like XXX's page before. "When there's a will, there's a way." I believe you can think for yourself. Just sayin' ~_~

St James' personnel do not even know about the card. I rarely use this hand gesture, saving it for special instances like this. Well, _|_ .

But I've topped up $50 to upgrade to the 10 yrs membership during my card collection day.. Does DLC meant that the $50 I paid is redundant now? totally like thrown into drain?"
Should I feel a tad bit comforted that at least I didn't agree to the whatever top-up shit? No.
Another girl expressed how they changed they terms and conditions as and when they like, " So now I didn't receive any sms from you guys meaning that I didn't get the ticket for this week? Seriously at the point of time when I sign up for this card, the 2 persons who are promoting this card told me that I will get 26 free tickets provided I went down to collect weekly. But after that then I get to know now is only for a limited of 100 people. I seriously feel very regret signing up for this stupid card. End up now I may not even get any movie ticket."
I really "respect" DLC for being so really organised in their operating methods of making this whole thing so believable and successfully managing to con so many ppl.
Re-enacting crime watch. Totally can imagine the police re-emphasising "Anything sounding too good to be true, is probably a scam" at the end of the show.
Argh. I'm never ever gonna agree to something I do not want just for the sake of 'don't abit abit also suspect la'.

On 9th September 2013 on 2.30pm, I received a phone call from a representative claiming to be from Discover Lion City, requesting me to remove my blog post containing the content as of above, the 'scam'.
He said Eminent (new company. only knew this after calling them up again) had bought over the company and would be doing some re-structuring of the whole system and that my post, was "affecting their business", I quote. What he said was not delivered so, the post is back up. I am so sorry :(((((
The new system, he said, supposedly involved a new voucher booklet which would be given to members monthly. You don't get to choose what is included in the voucher of course. They choose it, according to whichever merchants they have secured the deal with.

Those vouchers... Uhhh... How should I put it..... I mean, at one glance, you would understand right? Well, let's put it this way. Pizza Hut/ NTUC/ Popular/ Movie vouchers versus those given above.... which would you choose?
I told him that the my main reason for signing up was the movie tickets, as for my friend too. And also, the discount promised for entry to St. James etc. Basically, whatever I signed up for was not delivered >:(
He apologised for the promoters whom he said, might have been too engrossed with pushing sales that they might have provided false/ insufficient information, leading customers on.
Additionally, he said that if I did not agree/ am not satisfied with the deals in the voucher booklet, I could ask for and they would give me a full refund of $50, which was the amount I had paid for. However, the restructuring would only be done "by November", he said. And so, everything would only come into effect after the works are done.
How would we know when they have completed their restructuring? Would they email us? Give us a call? Mass SMS? Anything?
He said, he would email me but not everyone would be informed because...... *low and behold*....
"Their company would make a loss if everyone wants a refund."
Now I feel bad because he spoke in a somewhat nice tone and I felt pretty empathetic. I could understand your plight... If you would understand mine : (

Got to clarify some matters. Two things.
Firstly, they have gathered around 4000+ likes on their Facebook page. 4000 x $50 sums up to $240k and that's a huge sum of money I would say!!!
Secondly, it's the mentality. If a bully extorts, say 10 cents, from a child. Should the child inform his teacher/ parent? Should the bully be allowed to get away scotfree? "Low crime is not no crime". His "successes" would only further encourage his misdeeds.

Made a report last December. Report no. F/201312220/2107. The police didn't rlly see my case as a scam because after all I did get the card but not what was promised along with the card. But bladdy hell if you were the one who got scammed, you would know its a scam. Anyways in December 2013, I made my report under the case of a suspected scam (cos he postponed the company opening shit to January = =)
Followed up with my report in Feb 2014 after he blocked my number.
The police referred me to Small Claims and Tribunal Subordinate Courts. Hello?? I'm reporting a scam and think that I just want my 50 dollars back. Pissed.
OKAY I'm guessing a lot of ppl upon hearing the need to report to another third party would have backed away from all that trouble and just SUA-ed the case. But I wanted to see how it was like. So I went to the court. In Chinatown.
Told the lady in the Subordinate Courts that I'd been referred here by the police. Showed her my report. And she said that Subordinate Courts only work on cases within a year and my case was like in 2012 which is more than a year. FUG.
I told her that the douchebag only contacted me in Sept 2013 which is less than a year ago. She said yea I could file for hearing if I wanted to but if the lawyer.... the lawyer... LAWYER. Walao eh in order to get that scammer caught and have mine and my friends' $50 refunded back, I have to get a lawyer involved?! Bladdy hell, I should've opted for Law instead then I will fight for my own case.
Back to topic~ In the event that the lawyer views the case to be more than a year back (starting from the date I fugging passed that promoter the money), I would not be able to get the $10 administrative fees back. That fee is mandatory for filing a report.
Asked what would she advise. Should I get the case back to the police? And she said that Subordinate Courts cannot provide advices and that I should go to Community Justice Center and ask for free legal advice instead.
THANKFULLY it was just next door. I hopped over.
The counter lady told me that if I wanted to proceed....... *zoned out a little*.....some administrative fees (?) "could amount to hundreds" which is more than the $50 alr.
I asked if I could file many ppl's report together cos I wasn't the only one who kena scammed. That way, it'd be more than the admin fees alr right? ......... Cannot.
Asked if I should raise the issue back to the police instead. She suggested that I gather a few ppl and report the case together so the police wouldn't think that I'm the only one who got scammed but there are others out there as well, then they would consider opening up the case for investigation. Daheck?

Also, some companies have installed "topless" meetings in which laptop and other electronic devices such as iPhones are banned from meetings.
With a device close by, attendees at workplace meetings simply cannot keep their focus on the speaker. It's too easy to check email, stock quotes and Facebook.
Therefore, I should and would be keeping all my devices in another room after this post and continue mugging :)

Down there just across the block, those renovation workers blasting their opera-like Chinese music with those high pitched vocals.
OHMYGOD ! Getting on my nerves cos it's interfering with my brainwave frequency (if there's such a thing.)
Ultimately annoyed cos it's not the kind of music that my ears would find peaceful, I got up from my desk, rolled my math lecture booklet into a cylinder, went to the window, position my mouth at one end of the hole, and 'SHUDDUP LAAAAAA !'
I'm not sure if they actually heard me cos I didn't really shout that loud, it was more like a raised voice.
But about a minute after that, the music stopped !!!!! :D
I wonder if their speakers finally spoilt or not :)
They closed the windows :) !
YAYYYYY !

I don't have much time left to study alr, I still have got to say this.
Although I can't handle my own revision alr, I still worry so much for my friends. The people in this awesomely bonded, most fun class might not be I see around next year. I know that they are really stress right now even though they still seem so happy and bubbly and being guai lan, cracking jokes, laugh, make fun of people (not in a mean way) etc. Somehow, I feel that they are actually trying to cherish these last moments with us, I mean it's possible that they might not make it >~< ! And seeing them being laughing and all, yea, I'll laugh along :)
But when they are alone and such, their worries unmasks and you really can tell that they are really stress. Isolating away to revise when we're lunch-ing, going for a ton of consultations, always staying back to study in school, covering their lecture booklets with scribbles and notes.
In the heat of studying and constantly burning the midnight oil, some people just burn out !
Like how some just keep falling asleep in class/ lectures, and not even doing tutorials. Ahhhh ! I feel so worried for them !!! I really want to be there, pacing them, pushing them, guiding them... BUT I can't even handle my own time now, how to help others :3 especially after coming to JC omg, slack like sheeet !
I kind of miss those PHSDevotion mugger class spirit actl hahah ! It's like peer pressure and when there's a small class test that day, everyone would pull out their books and study during assembly. You don't want to study, also will get scared and study in the end lols. Ever since I come into JC, woahhhhhh ! Start to be late, start to sleep in class, constantly, don't know concepts anyhow whack in tests. Hahah !It's like when I'm tired, BOOM ! *doze off* Whoops ! I have no idea why. Maybe the CC has some sleeping gas which only diffuses to me.
When I tried keeping awake for one lecture, I realised how much I actl missed out during the times I was sleeping ! *mortifieddd* Because I always thought that the lectures are quite.... duhhh as in, firstly I don't even understand what the lecturer is talking about. Secondly, everything is in the lecture notes what ?! Okay, but at least I realised I was wrong :)
Just now after alighting, me, Brenda and CY stood at our usual chatspot and HTHT about how the class is going and all. Wahhhh if they really retain, those high-risk ppl, our class would be SO boring next year ! Cos they are one of the major contributors to the fun in classes . Talking halfway and just the thought about it, almost made me cry ! The tears didn't flow out though HAHAHA ! They just stuck there, I refuse to let them out =)
How I wish we are students in the God of Study's "special class" and the teachers there really drill and plan out a schedule for us and customise teaching to all our learning styles, strengths and weakness. Highly inspired after watching that show after 'O's. I think I should re-watch after Promos and PW :)
I told them how we should really follow our senior class' footsteps. They mug as a class, advanced as a class, improved A WHOLE LOT as a class. Quoted as one of the most improved classes and for the class that displayed very strong class spirit. During the holidays, half the class came back and study together at the canteen. :')
CY and Brenda told me that it's because they really woke up after some of their classmates didn't make it. Nooooooo ! I don't want anyone to leave (okay, maybe a few I'm not really close to but oh well~)
Although I hate studying like crap now, I actually think that these will be one of the times that I'll look back when I graduate and miss. Studying, being stressed until I feel like giving up, my head becoming too saturated with info, equations, keywords etc., going for consultations, seeing the freaking annoying countdown banner, studying with the company of my friend(s), studying in my room at my table while drinking Starbucks coffee and eating cookies with the aircon on and the windows open bigbig so that the natural sunlight light falls in. hahaha :)

Today we broke the record by we completing PW and actually managing to print before tmr (which is the deadline) omggg !
We brainstormed for GI, TOGETHER with everyone actl talking X) So we had the outline and all alr. Just now all we had to do was to complete Chapter 4&5 and edit. Have to admit that it's not reallyyy that fantastic cos we had damn little citations, no time and we didn't want to risk rushing to print tmr. It'd definitely be ultra jam-packed AGAIN !
Yeap I think we can progress quite swiftly now onwards, since we found our ideal PW spot at Pris' house and we're all familiar enough to talk crap and come up w ideas together hahaha ! Yayyyy !
I think our group is one of the better ones in the sense that my original PI idea is still intact and usable. Our Bl-amazing Race thingy although wasn't perfect but we only had to modify it here and there :) Win told me that from the first draft to the final one, your product could change from a table to a phone. Yeahhh, the change could be that drastic ! But ours maintained ! :)

Earlier this week, CY was said she couldn't make it for my Bday celebrations on Sat cos she'd meeting her Sec Sch friends. I thought it was quite unnecessary la~ Since she just met them on Friday during 4Devotion reunion and then must meet again ! Somemore, she could push back right, instead of missing her best friend's party walaooo :(
Initially I was damn urghhh, but being a good friend, I tried to understand and just let it go :) since I see her everyday (almost) and she put up with my occasional angst and all haha .
At 00:00, Cavyn (yes, you :) ) called to wish me Happy Birthday !!! First to wish me and I was pleasantly surprised ~ Purposely waited for him to talk first ehheh >:) I think he felt a bit awkward at first . Anyway, happily, I fell asleep . Tmr (since I haven't slept yet) is gonna be an awesomely fun day ^^
*Next morning*
I woke up late ! Saw Mindy's long bday message and she said she had a fever !!! So she couldn't make it D: OMG ! CY not coming, Mindy not coming, my mood just roller-coaster dipped. But oh well, life still goes on, bday still goes on. I kinda hoped she would still come even though she was sick but cannot be so bad right !?
I suddenly rmbd Mindy and I were supposed to collect the free movie tickets later on at Somerset. FRANTIC ! I texted her but she didn't reply so I figured out she was sleeping. Sick patient !
WanYu send me a long bday text too ! ♥ And she tried to push her tuition earlier but couldn't... SO ! WANYU IS NOT COMING EITHERRR ! Felt like cancelling the whole thingy but the rest of the clique...
So I was 20 min late in meeting them, because of the bus. And guess what ?! I was late, but they were even later ! Sigh , being a loner on my birthday, meddling with my phone, standing at the interchange, waiting for my friends. What would I do w/o 3G man . Jon said he was on the bus while Belle is waiting for hers. Okay.
Eons later (alright, 10min actl), some idiot just BOOOOOO-ED me from behind !!! So it was Jon LOLS ! And Belle was a distance behind ! Jon passed my Famous Amos from Wanyu and said that she was really really sorry she couldn't make it . Awwww so sweet ! I love cookies ♥ :D !
Then I asked if ZhiSheng and Brenda were coming ? Jon said Brenda all along not coming what and Zhi Sheng.. He called him. " *gasps* Zhi Sheng not coming leh ! He said he going out with his friends ! "
Harh okay lor.. ^_^ is not coming . Then I saw Jon having the mic thing on his screen so I asked, "Whyyy are you recording?"
" Oh ! Zhi Sheng wants me to record your sad reaction . But then you so normal ! ORH so he's not important at all is it ?! "
Noooo, I can't openly show my disappointment right ! So my bday celebration is gonna miserably 3 of us, which is like less than half a clique. But at least I still have some friends with me ?
It was Dress Day ! Like our original plan was for all the girls to wear dresses ~ Belle didn't wear a dress :? but she brought her pretty polaroid ! Imagine a polaroid and 3 of us. Quite.... I don't know what to say but okay.. YAY POLAROID !
Maybe I didn't pray hard enough, maybe I was bad throughout the year (Santa logic lols), maybe I was just THAT insignificant to my friends whom I loved so much, and I thought that I so big. Tch.
Just nice, bus came.
We just talked about how the Teachers' Day celebration went, how AMAZINGLY AWESOME it was ~, how Manfred played the piano like omg freaking charming, which part we loved best, and the behind the scenes thingy since Jon was part of the organisation and all (talk about this seperately ).
We didn't know which stop to alight and Jon was like, " Okay ! It's either this stop ! Or the next stop . I'm kind of a bit forget leh, cos I haven't been here for a long time "
I told him it's okay and we can just try any one and at most just walk one stop lor.
We alighted at this dilapidated somethingsomething Shaw mall. Looks like those oldie Chinatown shopping centre. Why in the world would they built a Sakura outlet here ?! Will have customers meh ?! Looks so freaking ulu ! It's a wonder that their business is still surviving.
Jon didn't know where the outlet was, so we walked around the mall (since it's so tiny).
After one big round, I asked Jon if we were at the right place. "How can Sakura be here ?! This is like all the maid place ! " (cos I saw there was this ??? Employment Agency right in front). Jon and Belle stared widely at me and shushed me cos they said the maids inside all turned to look at me lols. I DIDN'T REALISE THE DOOR WAS OPEN !! Whoops !
Then Jon said that perhaps we were at the wrong mall. It's supposed to be this Shaw Twin Towers thingy . When we went out of the ulu mall, we found out that it was the wrong one !
It's okay ! Walk a few steps and reached the right one in front. Yes ! Thank goodness it's the right one ! It looks soooo much better can ! Quite quiet but acceptable :)
When we were going up the escalator, this weird guy was staring down which I later realised was a waiter from Sakura. Maybe too bored huh, no customers omg.
When we stepped in, Jon had to pay first. Jon said he made a reservation alr and the receptionist asked if it was the Table for 6 one. I felt quite scared because it was supposedly Table for 6 but now only we 3 ppl so what if Jon had to pay and wasted his money ?! Maybe he gave the other 3 seats to his friends lols. The receptionist was like, "Okay, so it's $90++ ~"
I totally jumped ! WTS ?! So freaking expensive ! One person is like 30+ bucks ohmygod !!!!!!! I felt really very bad cos 2 of them split cost in addition to their own costs is super ex ! Personally, I would be quite hesitant to fine dine and pay with own money cos presently, I'm this kid with only a tad bit of savings left (Last year no scholarship = no extra income zzzz) .
Jon had not enough cash so he swiped out some card. Woah !
Belle walked in so I followed and tried to orientate myself and find where's the food :D !
Round the food area, I SAW MINDY AND CY AND ZHISHENG !!!!!!! Ohmygod ohmygod ohmygoddd Instantly, I just cried =') And I couldn't stop crying dammit ! My makeup kinda smudged abit but it's okay. They turned up !!!! and that's all that matters omg , hugged them :) . Besides, the makeup just looks more well blended HAHA !
For that moment, I didn't know what the shit was happening because I was so shocked, so so dayum shocked . I couldn't think properly and then I just turned around and walked to don't know where and then turned back again lolols ! Ohmygodddd !
Mindy was like, " Ohmygod rewind rewind ! Hahaha ! "
I thought she wanted to see the instant I cried again HAHA but it turns out that I wasn't supposed to see them first.
They brought out the cake and started singing Happy Birthday and the restaurant played the Happy Birthday song aaaah so sweet ! At that time, my brain still cannot function properly so I thought that it sounded like some Christmas song lols !
Then they brought me to the table all the way at the back. AND LOOK !!!

While eating they told me the whole story ~
They wanted to make it damn sad and someone bangseh beforehand (CY), someone bangseh on the day (Mindy) and someone bangseh on the SPOT (Zhisheng) . So Zhisheng is supposedly the bad guy. And they have a Team Mindy and Team Jon ! Team Mindy is the bangseh Jesselyn one and Team Jon is the turn up for Jesselyn one omg !
Belle was like, "Erhrhrhh I don't want to be in Team Jonnnn ! " hahahaha !
Mindy was supposedly sleeping, so she couldn't reply my msg !
Team Mindy at around 11.30am to prepare. At that time I was still uhhh... at home LOLS ! Even Jon and Belle reached early ! Before me at least and then were waiting at the Famous Amos upstairs because Mindy, CY and ZS weren't ready yet .
Just nice, I arrived late, so they were damn happy because things were on their side ~
All the while, Jon was texting Mindy and the rest because they were panicking that there wasn't enough time ! Guess what ? I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE AT ALL omg !
I sort of exposed part of their plan. I discoverd the recording thing and Jon was like 'oh shit!' and he came up the ZhiSheng' wanting to know my reaction thingy on the spot. Belle thought that it was a crappy excure but I ACTL BOUGHT THE STORY ! Can't believe how dumb I am ~ :b
Jon purposely brought me to the wrong mall to stall for time.
This also explains the waiter staring down thingy laaa~.
At the reception, Jon and Belle thought that ' Dieee ! Expose alr ! ' but I SHRUGGED IT OFF aaaaah !
Totally got surprised for them !!! The last part Belle was supposed to bring me to the tables but she didn't know where they were and so I saw Mindy CY and ZS first hahaha !
Jon said during many instances they thought that their plans are gonna be exposed alr but didn't in the end. SEE ! Shows how much trust I have in my friends and I didn't even suspect them lols !
Plans foiled alr, very spoiler. Sooooo, we should all put trust in our friends ! :D YAY

Cut cake w family :) Take pictures ! Same routine ! I was telling them it's okay, don't need to sing, spare the awkwardness . But they sang, like.. for once after don't know how many years omg !
My sis did a very cute card, can't import the picture now so I can't show :(
The gifts were awesome as well, I got an S3 and a notebook ! OMG best birthday EVA ! No doubt :)
